Why You Should Reboot Your Computer Every Few Days

Hey fellow computer user 👋, Do you often have this question lingering in your head "Is it ok to leave my computer running all the time?"

The answer is no, it really isn't. Here's why..........

Before we jump-start...

What is Rebooting ❓

In computing, booting is the process of starting a computer. It can be initiated by hardware such as a button press, or by a software command.

Rebooting is the act or an instance of shutting down and restarting something (such as a computer or program).

Types of rebooting 🔸

There are two main types of rebooting procedures: the soft, or warm, reboot and the hard reboot, also known as a cold reboot.

🔹 soft reboot
A soft reboot refers to restarting the computer without shutting it all the way down and turning the power off.

🔹 hard reboot
A hard reboot is a process of restarting a computer manually, physically or using any other method besides restarting it from the operating system controls.

Why You Should Re-boot❓

Both Windows PCs and Macs tend to collect digital junk in their RAM storage areas over time, primarily from poorly-written programs and apps causing memory leaks and/or leaving parts of themselves behind in RAM when you close them out.

On top of that, transient glitches caused by power fluctuations can cause data corruption in isolated memory cells.

While these types of RAM issues typically go unnoticed by the user, they often subtly manifest themselves by causing system instability, system slow-downs and a wide variety of other issues.

Now all of the above begin said, it isn't really necessary to restart your computer every single day but if you can, please go ahead.

You want to keep the practice ✔

Rebooting helps keep your computer running efficiently and can often speed up performance if you've been having issues.

The combination of things such as flushing the RAM and clearing up temporary files and processes helps keep “computer cobwebs” from forming and as a result, your PC can perform at peak speed.

Conclusion 📑

I believe cold-rebooting the laptop at least two times a week is a good and great routine for me. You can also choose to do a soft reboot every 2 days.
